How Our CSA Works

At Plowshares & Prairie, we are excited to offer a community supported agriculture (CSA) program (see FAQs for more info on CSAs). By buying a summer share in our farm, you will receive a weekly box of produce from our farm for 19 weeks between June 4th/6th and October 29th/31st. This includes three weeks off: one flex week off of your choice and two skip weeks that we’ll communicate to members before the season begins. (We are also offering a limited number of Spring shares - see the product in the online store for details.) In this box will be produce grown by us on our farm and harvested fresh. What you receive in the box will vary by the season; scroll down for a couple example boxes that you might receive at different times of the growing season. If you’re not sure what share size is right for you, we recommend checking out the archive of CSA newsletters where you can review actual shares week by week from the last several years.

We offer two different share sizes at the following prices:

  • Regular: $720. 9-15 items per week. Good for two people that regularly eat vegetables, a family, an individual that loves them, or shared between friends, co-workers, or roommates.

  • Regular (farm pick-up): $670. Discount for picking up your box at the farm.

  • Small(er): $620. 7-12 items per week. Good for two people that enjoy vegetables or one person that cooks regularly with vegetables. Note this is bigger than a “half share” and most other farms’ “Small” shares - there are generally 2-3 items less or smaller quantities than the Regular share.

  • Small(er) (farm pick-up): $570. Discount for picking up your box at the farm.

Each box comes with a newsletter where we describe what’s going on at the farm that week and provide recipes and storage tips for the produce. Your box will be available for pick-up each week at the agreed upon location. The only weekly time commitment our CSA requires is picking up your box of produce, however we would love to have you come visit us at the farm for one of our events (pending public health guidance at the time).

We grow a great variety of vegetables, and are also pleased to regularly offer several fruits, including strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, and cantaloupe.

A note on Covid-19: We continue to exercise caution with the Covid-19 situation and will continue to follow safety protocols and public health guidance to promote the safety of our CSA members and market customers, farm crew, and family. This includes frequent hand washing, masking when recommended, vaccinating our family members, and setting clear expectations and protocols for safe CSA pick-ups by our members. We believe in doing our part to protect public safety while providing healthy and nourishing food for our community.

Interested in becoming a CSA member? Purchase your share and fill out your membership form through our online store. If joining a CSA is not a good fit for you, we’d love to have you as a farmers’ market customer.

We welcome feedback on how to best serve our members, so please let us know if you have any suggestions for how we can make our CSA program even better.

Financial Assistance

If you’re worried that CSA doesn’t seem affordable for you right now, please know you have some options to help make CSA work for your financial situation.

There is a great cost-share option available that can make eating fresh, healthy, and local produce through a CSA more accessible. The FairShare CSA Coalition provides financial assistance though the Partner Shares program, where they contribute 50% (up to $300) toward to cost of a CSA share at our or another FairShare-endorsed CSA farm. Please visit FairShare’s Partner Shares page for more information on eligibility and the application process.

We also offer the option to pay for your share in multiple installments if paying for the entire share upfront is not feasible for you. Visit the online store to review payment options.

Outstanding quality and variety along with exceptional customer service.
